Mountaineering and Scrambling

Climbing a mountain, whether in the UK or abroad, requires many skills. These could include navigation, route finding, climbing, rope work skills and descending.

These courses, all based in and around the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, will prepare and equip you with the skills and knowledge to broaden your climbing experience.

Basic NavigationLearn to navigate effectively and efficiently.

An introduction to using a map and compass to safely navigate in the British Mountains. This is aimed at people who want to explore off the beaten track or simply to make sure they can always get off the hills safely if the weather gets worse or it gets dark.

Advanced Navigation

2 days, 1:4 ratio, £85 per person.

Dates: Call to discuss.

Building on the skills and techniques acquired on the basic navigation course, or through prior experience, the advanced course will introduce methods to relocate yourself if lost and navigate with precision in poor visibility.

Simply Scrambling

2 days, 1:3 ratio, £115 per person.

Dates: Call to discuss.

Scrambling on Tower Ridge, Ben Nevis.

Between hillwalking and rock climbing is the domain of the scrambler. This is an activity where a rope is required for security but is not used as extensively as in rock climbing.
Scrambling enables you to get to places that the vast majority of walkers will never reach and climbers will not frequent either. This allows you to experience the solitude and tranquility not available in the popular walking or climbing areas.
This course will introduce you to the world of scrambling and will cover as much ground as possible in the two days. Whether you are a hill walker or a climber wishing to move into mountaineering, these two days will give you a taste of scrambling and make you wonder why you did not try it earlier.

Scrambling On Your Own

2 days, 1:2 ratio, £175 per person.

Dates: Call to discuss.

By the end of these two days, you will be capable of attempting easy scrambles with a suitable partner. The course will teach the appropriate rope work and protection skills required to safely complete a scramble.

Equipment

All equipment will be provided. However, participants will need appropriate mountain footwear and clothing. Please ask if unsure.
